Made in France Fashion: Why Choose Clothes Made in France?
Faced with a globalised fashion industry, choosing French production is one way of rethinking how our clothes are made.
At La Jaquette, we have chosen to craft our pieces in our Parisian atelier. This allows us to stay close to the making process, support local craftsmanship and create collections in limited editions.
But what does Made in France really mean, and why does this choice matter?
Preserving French craftsmanship
France has a long tradition in fashion and garment making.
Pattern cutting, tailoring, assembly and finishing: behind every garment are skills and techniques that have been passed down and refined over time.
Producing locally helps preserve this expertise and makes it possible to work directly with the people who make the clothes.
At La Jaquette, our pieces are carefully crafted in our Parisian atelier, with particular attention paid to the quality of the cut and finishing.
Producing closer to home, producing differently
The production of a garment can involve many different stages carried out across several countries before it finally reaches a shop or its owner.
Local production can help shorten part of this chain and reduce some of the transport linked to manufacturing.
For us, however, producing in France is above all about maintaining a close connection with every stage of the making process: adjusting a cut, checking a finish or producing a size to order when the fabric is still available.
This proximity allows us to work in a more flexible and carefully controlled way.
Supporting the local economy
Choosing Made in France also means supporting workshops, artisans and professionals based in France.
Every garment made locally contributes to an ecosystem of expertise: dressmakers, pattern cutters, suppliers and the many professions involved in textile creation.
For La Jaquette, this human dimension is essential.
We prefer to produce in small quantities and remain close to the people who bring our creations to life.
Collections in limited editions
We do not aim to produce large quantities of identical garments.
Our collections are created in limited editions, particularly because we work with fabrics available in restricted quantities.
This way of producing allows us to offer more distinctive pieces and adapt production volumes to the materials available.
Certain sizes can also be made to order when the fabric is still in stock.
Giving exceptional fabrics a new life
Made in France is only one part of our approach.
At La Jaquette, we also select fabrics sourced from the stocks of leading French couture houses.
Rather than leaving these materials unused, we give them a new life through our blazers, trousers, dresses, coats and other pieces.
As each fabric is available only in limited quantities, some creations exist in just a small number of pieces.
It is this combination of upcycling, Parisian craftsmanship and limited editions that defines much of La Jaquette’s identity.
Choosing clothes designed to last
A more responsible approach does not depend solely on where a garment is made.
Its lifespan matters too.
We favour timeless cuts and carefully selected fabrics in order to create pieces that can be worn season after season.
A well-cared-for jacket can remain part of a wardrobe for many years. That is why we also encourage repair, proper care and made-to-order production whenever possible.
Made in France according to La Jaquette
For us, making in France should be more than a label on a garment.
It is a way of working: staying close to the production process, valuing craftsmanship, producing in carefully managed quantities and giving meaning to the materials we choose.
From Paris, we aim to create an elegant, timeless wardrobe in which every piece tells a story of cut, fabric and craftsmanship.
